Meet Our Directors

Irvin and Ruth Schwandt are not new to Kenya. The Schwandt have served in Kenya with the PEFA group of Churches since 1970.

Ruth went to the Belgian Congo with her parents in 1957. Later their ministry brought them to Kenya to teach and eventually to become Principal of Nairobi Pentecostal Bible College (NPBC). During there time in Kenya. Ruth took a Nurses' Training Course at Nairobi Hospital receiving her Rn registration. She then went to England to do a Midwifery Course and received her SCM registration.

After graduation from Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY, Irvin came to Kenya in 1970 and taught at NPBC until 1994 when he became more involved in the administration of a baby home. Irvin and Ruth worked for four years in another home in Kenya which takes babies from birth to one year. About half of the babies admitted were HIV+. They found that with proper care and lots of Love between 90-95% of the HIV+ babies became negative. Since the home they were with only had facilities for babies from birth to one year it was felt by PEFA that a place was needed for long term care, thus the formation of Rehema Home.
